English Book Exchange Pop-Up

Bring a book, take a book!

Join us for a relaxed pop-up book exchange for English-language book lovers! Whether you're clearing your shelves or hunting for something new, this is a lovely excuse to connect with fellow readers over good books, great snacks, and a drink in hand.

We'll also sweet baked treats from Nippon Viajero to make the afternoon extra special. Moshimo member Heather Dobbin will be behind the bar, ready to talk about your favorite book.

How it works

Bring up to 5 English-language books in good condition — fiction, non-fiction, whatever you've loved (or just haven't gotten around to reading). Browse what others have brought and take home something new.

What to bring:

  • 1–5 English-language books in good, readable condition

  • Fiction and non-fiction both welcome!

Please leave at home: magazines, non-English books, outdated manuals or academic texts, dictionaries, and anything severely damaged, heavily underlined, or missing pages. We want every book on the table to find a happy new home.

A note on the venue

We're in an independently-run coop, so we ask that everyone purchase at least one drink or food item from the bar to support the space. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options are available.

Pre-registered guests receive one complimentary drink or 500 yen toward a food item — another great reason to sign up early!

Important: Spots are limited to 30 participants and must be secured in advance. This applies to guests and plus-ones too — please make sure everyone in your group is registered before the event to ensure a safe and comfy environment!

Moshimo Cafe + Space

Moshimo... (もしも...) is a way of saying "what if..." in Japanese.
What if we built the space that we felt was missing in the world?
What if it felt creative, warm, energetic, organized, enthusiastic, collaborative, and inspiring?
What if it were a space where people felt empowered to bring their odd ideas to life?
What if we could also serve the food and drinks that we love while all that's happening?
Moshimo is the space we're building to be all this.
Our community members describe themselves as silly but serious, fierce but friendly, curious and creative, inspired and energized. We strive to foster an environment that has both space for imagination and resources for implementation.

What's your 'what if'?
