I'm going to be on stage at My Japan Story SLAM — and honestly, I'm a little nervous and a whole lot excited. It’s my first story slam.
If you've never been to a Story SLAM before, here's what you need to know: no slides, no notes, no phones — just real people telling true, 5-minute stories from the heart. No script, no safety net. Just the story and the room.
This time, the theme is LOVE HURTS: Stories of Hope, Joy, Loss, Heartbreak, Humiliation, Humor, and Unrequited Love. 9 storytellers will take the stage, and I'll be one of them. I'll be sharing something true and personal in a very different way than my usual speaking engagements.
Content note: Live storytelling can include adult themes and sensitive topics — things like grief, mental health, and loss — that may not be suitable for everyone. There are also stories of joy, hope, and the funny, unexpected moments that make life worth talking about. Feel free to reach out to the host beforehand if you'd like a heads-up on what's coming.
And here's something I love about this event: 15–20% of net ticket sales go to Food Bank Meguro, handpicked by one of my favorite humans, Francis Fung from KiFor.
Come be part of it. Come hear the stories people don't usually tell out loud.
